Boycott Now

Gas for the reasonable price of $1.50 a gallon is our goal.

Boycott Mobil and Exxon until we reach our goal.

This is a simple message and call to action.

Market pressure moves prices up and market pressure can bring prices down.  $3, $4 and $5 a gallon is outrageous and the oil companies would push it to $10 a gallon if we let them.

WE PURCHASERS OF GAS ARE THE MARKET

ExxonMobil is a company that has benefitted the most for the last 3 years from high gas prices with outrageously high record profits.  ExxonMobil can most afford to lead the way to lower prices.  We have chosen them as our focal point of boycott.  An angry market that focuses its attention on the one place that will have the greatest effect is our powerful weapon.

Oil companies announce record profits for the year.

CBSNews—Largest Annual Corporate Profit in American History for 2007

With continuing record profits in 2008 and huge profits in 2009, they take advantage of a public desperate for relief from high prices.  Most companies in America are hurting badly, some of the largest filing bankruptcy and Exxon is doing GREAT.  Something is wrong with this picture.  They have huge amounts of money to spend to influence politicians and policy.

CBSNews Exxon Strikes Record-Setting $11B Profit for Quarter

Profits are from the amount companies charge more than it costs to produce and deliver a product.  Record profits do not come directly from record high oil prices but by choosing to set prices high above production costs.    An example of profit is to take one dollar of oil and decide to sell it for five dollars when the market will pay for it.  There are huge profits and this pricing is a fundamental example of evil greed.

They cannot fight and win against committed consumers that will not buy their products.  We can force ExxonMobil to lower prices or sell no gasoline if sufficient people will act.  We want to see Mobil and Exxon stations selling gas for $1.50 per gallon before we buy a drop. This focused boycott will cause the price to be lowered to $1.50 per gallon at all gas stations.   That is our goal.

Just say NO MORE MOBIL EXXON.

There is no organization behind this action.  It is an idea that must take a common root in the hearts and minds of millions of American individuals.  Each person doing a small part and encouraging family, friends and neighbors to do the same is what makes us bigger and stronger than all the oil companies.

For us to beat a 500 billion dollar company, we only need to do our individual small part.

Three simple actions:

1. Do not buy anything from Mobil or Exxon until they are selling gas at $1.50 a gallon.

2. Encourage others to do the same.

3. Make a homemade sign with  “Boycott” and “NO MOBIL EXXON.com” and display it prominently.

Questions and Answers

Q:

Can ExxonMobil be blamed for the financial crisis?

A:

Probably not directly, but many people get into trouble because they are too optimistic and overextend themselves.  If you overextend even a little, it can get you deeper and deeper in the hole.  You can cut back but only so far.  You need gas to get to work.  When gas costs 3 times what it should, it is a big part of the problem.

Money that could have gone to pay house payments went to pay for gas to keep a job while hoping that next month would be better.  For years ExxonMobil was making billions and billions of greedy excessive profit while the guy on Main Street was going down.  It is time for ExxonMobil to pay it back - the greed penalty.

Q:

Shouldn’t I send an email to everyone that I know?

A:

Personal messages are persuasive while forwarded emails just tend to be annoying. There have been spam email blasts about boycotts in the past and they are ineffective.   Communicate with family and friends in your normal manner which may include emails but make them personal and direct to the people you know.

The email message can be simple.    “I am participating in the No Mobil Exxon boycott and I would like to encourage you to participate also.  Go to NoMobilExxon.com to get details.”

Q:

Are there any other good ways to get the word out?

A:

If you have a web site or Myspace, add information about your participation.  In the Myspace interest area say you are participating and put this web site www.NoMobilExxon.com in the comment.  Put a sign in the back window of your car (where legal) with NoMobilExxon.com. This small sign says you are participating and gives people the place to get details.

Q:

Will this just be a fad and not be effective?

A:

People who agree with the need for the boycott will act and participate as a personal choice without regard for how popular it is.  They will consider it on principle to be an important personal act to help reduce gas prices.  That is all that is necessary.

Q:

Why will this be effective NOW?

A:

People are outraged when big companies like ExxonMobil Corp make huge amounts of money at the expense of people that more and more cannot afford just everyday necessities.   Every quarter of increasing profits will increase the outrage.

Supporting the boycott with individual signs that are prominently displayed, inspire others to consider participating.  The signs also strengthen the resolve of those that participate every time they see one.  These frequent visual reminders will increase participation.

Q:

How about protest pickets at gas stations?

A:

There is no organization behind this boycott.  Sometimes the importance of an idea is diluted when married to an organization’s agenda.  This boycott stands alone on its own merit so there will be no organized pickets.

A picket may be effective.  It is a significant effort and commitment by those that participate and this can sometimes be valuable.  It varies from one area to another whether it is a good thing to do.  Even a single  picketer can be a significant demonstration and example of commitment and resolve.   A sign with NoMobilExxon.com encourages people to come to this web site and get the details.

Q:

Why should the management at ExxonMobil respond favorably to our boycott?

A:

There are many factors that drive the thinking of management at Exxonmobil. A few of them are losing revenue, losing profits, competitors gaining revenue, competitors increasing profits and most importantly lower stock prices.

A boycott causes all of the above to occur. When we buy gas from anyone except Exxon and Mobil, this moves revenue and profits away from Exxonmobil to their competitors. This then affects ExxonMobil stock prices negatively.

When there is not a true supply and demand pricing dynamic which is the current situation with oil and gas, it is the psychology of the market and the decisions of management that drives the prices.  In the great oil club everyone makes huge profits when no one rocks the boat.  We can shake up the club and rock the boat.
